Invited Faculty - Vivekanand Jha

Vivekanand Jha graduated from Patna Medical College, did his postgraduate training in Medicine and Nephrology from the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGI), Chandigarh, India and a basic science research Fellowship supported by the International Society of Nephrology at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston.
He has been on the faculty of Nephrology at the PGI since 1992 and currently is the Professor of Nephrology and Head of the Department of Translational and Regenerative Medicine. His research interests have encompassed all fields of nephrology and transplantation, including clinical research in tropical acute and chronic kidney diseases, post-transplant infections, and pharmacogenetics of immunosuppressive drug therapy. He is currently investigating the role of genetic polymorphisms in kidney diseases, and translational research in regenerative medicine including use of stem cells for transplant tolerance.
Dr Jha is the Secretary of the Indian Society of Nephrology, Executive Committee member and Councilor of International Society of Nephrology, Councilor of the Transplantation Society, Executive Committee of AFCKDI and serves on several ISN Committees. He is the Deputy Editor of the Indian Journal of Nephrology, Subject Editor of Nephrology, Associate Editor of the American Journal of Kidney Diseases and American Journal of Transplantation and on the Editorial and/or Advisory Boards of several other journals. He is a Section Editor of the Oxford Textbook of Nephrology. He has been on the Board of Directors of the Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes and a member of KDIGO Guideline Development groups for management of kidney transplant recipients and patients with glomerulonephritis. He has over 180 publications in peer-reviewed journals and 25 chapters in major textbooks. Dr Jha has been elected a Fellow of the Royal college of Physicians (London) and the National Academy of medical Sciences (India).
